Our Environment

Biodiversity: At Agrial Fresh Farms Ltd (our own farm in Colchester) we have initiated a Landscape and Nature Conservation Plan to enhance biodiversity, including the specific management and protection of the habitats of local wildlife such Butterflies and Bees, the Skylark and the Pipistrelle bat.

Water Management: At Agrial Fresh Farms Ltd we capture rain water to reuse for tunnel irrigation helping to reduce water wastage.

One of our key beetroot suppliers for our Axgro site in Scunthorpe, re-uses waste beetroot product as fertiliser to enrich the soil and grow more tasty beets.

Green waste: We send all production waste back to our local farmers which they use to feed livestock thus eliminating almost all of our food waste.

Clean, Dry, Safe

Our Initiative to ensure a safe working environment and reduce both product and water loss by working in a lean, effective way. We aim to reduce water usage by 10% by 2025.

Reducing Emissions

Our Supply Chain

In order to reduce our CO2 we minimise empty lorries by collecting raw materials on their way back from delivering to our customers

During our import season we have worked with a freight forwarder to reduce road miles by utilising ferry routes from Spain rather than driving the full distance to the channel, this routing emits less than half the CO2 than traditional routes from Spain.

Our Factories

At our Lichfield site we have restricted on site car parking. We offer a complimentary bus service to facilitate our employees’ journey to and from work to help reduce our green house gas emissions.

Green House Gas Emission Targets

As a subsidiary of Agrial Ltd, Agrial Fresh Produce Ltd has committed to reducing its absolute Scope 1 & 2 GHG emissions by 48% and its Scope 3 GHG emissions by 27% by 2035, from a 2019 base year. This commitment has been verified by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi).

Food Waste

Food waste contributes significantly to deforestation and global warming – the more food wasted, the more food packaging wasted. We are working hard to reduce food waste, not only in our factories where we are using ultra-sonic sealing to keep our salads fresher for longer but also by educating our consumers.

Packaging

As part of our commitment to reduce packaging, we are looking at packaging alternatives that are either recyclable, bio-degradable or compostable. We are also looking at eliminating any unnecessary plastic use which has already reduced our usage on the Florette brand by an estimated 12.4 tonnes per year. Florette’s packaging can now be recycled at large supermarkets.

Energy Reduction

We are working with the wider group on a project to reduce energy throughout the sites.

Lighting is being changed to more energy efficient lighting.

Alternative power sources, for example Combined Heat and Power using gas turbines instead of grid electricity, is considered where possible.
